School is in full swing, the leaves are changing colors, and football season is upon us…fall is here!
The change of seasons and the crisp, cool air create the ideal time to be outside, soak in the splendor of nature and move your body.
The Bible says God’s creation clearly reveals His amazing power and divine nature (Romans 1:19-21).
When we slow down and intentionally notice our surroundings, we can’t help but thank God for all he has created. Isaiah 55:12 exemplifies nature praising God: “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
Doesn’t that passage paint an image alive with life and energy? And doesn’t it encourage us to recognize the work of God in nature when we are walking, playing, running or working?
Look at your calendar and schedule a day – or even a morning or afternoon – and plan to go outside. Or, if you are more the spur-of-the-moment type of gal, keep an eye on the weather and take a 1/2 day off from work on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
Go on a hike. Visit an apple orchard. Check out the vibrant colors of fall. Go horseback riding. Play outdoor football. Rake leaves. Take a bike ride.

Take time to intentionally notice your surroundings regardless of what activity you decide to participate in. Smell the fragrance of fall. Notice the gentle breeze on your skin or the warmth of the sun on your face. Listen for birds or other sounds of nature. There is a kaleidoscope of colors that makes up your surroundings if you pay attention.

“Go outside and praise the God
Who mapped the stars out in the sky
And gather ’round with those who love and sing
He is our king”
Let’s follow the example given to us in Isaiah 55:12. Thank God for the beauty He has created in our world and for the ability to see, hear, smell and move. And let’s not allow this season go by without soaking in creation and praising the One who made it.
