Our beliefs and attitudes about money play an important role in how we manage our God-given resources. Frequently, our beliefs and attitudes result from our upbringing. We may have received little to no education on managing personal finances, observed angry outbursts surrounding money, or experienced extreme penny-pinching that leaves us confused and self-focused.
It is the few – and the fortunate – that are given valuable and lengthy training on managing money in a God-honoring way. Faith and finances are not two separate elements. There are frequent references to money and resources in the Bible. As we are pursuing lives of faith, we cannot ignore our finances.
While the world says to seek personal affluence, God’s Word tells us otherwise. If we want to be the ones to answer the cry of the poor (Proverbs 21:13), it’s necessary that we evaluate our current financial situation and determine our future financial goals.
